    Paralympics Events

    Friday, October 16th, 2009

    22 Grasmere pupils took part in the Junior Paralympics event at Clissold Leisure Centre on Tuesday.

    The sports were: Wheelchair Basketball, Judo, Sailing, Swimming, Goal Ball and Athletics.

    Grasmere was Junior Champions for the second year running. All children received medals for taking part.

    Year 5 & 6 Football Win

    Congratulations to the Grasmere Year 5 & 6 Football Team who go through to the Hackney Glyn Williams Cup finals. Grasmere won 2 matches and drew 1. Players were: Oscar, Zeki, Erik, Cagkan, Cameron, Sol, Anthony and Jaidon.

    Orienteering Champions

    Well done to Louis Antrobus and Jude Painter in Year 5 who are the Hackney Junior Orienteering champions.

    Tag Rugby Champions

    Grasmere became Hackney Bulls Tag Rugby champions this week. Congratulations to team members: Tia, Tamer, Lewis, Paige, Max, Elliot and Cameron.

    Cross Country

    On Monday 40 Grasmere children took part in the Hackney league in the pouring rain on Hackney Downs. Overall so far Grasmere is in 3rd place with 4 more events to go. The next event is on Monday 19 October at 2.00pm on Hackney Downs. Please come along and give your support to the children.

    Cricket Visit to Lords

    Our Cricket team visited Lords on Tuesday as hackney Champions for the All London Championships. Grasmere finished 3rd in their group losing to the eventual winners, Canonbury primary from Islington.

    Netball Cluster Competition

    Grasmere players took part in the Cluster A Competition at Clissold Leisure Centre yesterday, winning 1 game with Marla and Zeki scoring goals.

    Learning Trust Sports Competition Manager Awards

    Jamie, Competition manager form the Learning Trust visited Grasmere today to present the school with the Year 3/4 and 5/6 Relay Cross Country and Individual Cross Country awards.

    Borough Cross Country Results

    Grasmere lost out by 1 point in the Hackney Cross Country Finals. Team A came 2nd, Team B 4th and Team C 7th.

    Children from Years 3 to 6 took part. Grasmere was the only Hackney school to involve children not in Year 6. Well done to all the children for their excellent efforts and to Ian with his coaching of the children.

    Multi Skills Competition Win

    Congratulations to the Year 2, 3 and 4 team who won the Hackney Multi Skills Competition this week. Our team were as follows: Stanley B.S., Lauren, Paige, Jaidon, Anthony, Stanley S., Ynes, Daisy and Cameron.

    Football 5 a Side Win

    Well done to the Grasmere team who won this week’s 5-A-Side Competition at Clissold Park with the team winning all 4 matches!

    Our team was: Louis R, Erik, Oscar, Flint, Cameron, Ynys, Stan S.,
    Anthony, Jaidon, Paige and Stan B.

    Netball Results

    Congratulations to the Grasmere Netball teams for excellent practice over the last few weeks matches. Currently Team A is in first position (10 goals scored) and Team B in seventh position (5 goals scored) in the Hackney Division 1 matches.

    Goals were scored by Ricco and Eve in this weeks match.

    Year 6 Hackney Eleanor Shield Football Competition

    Well done to the Year 6 team (and additional children) who represented the school on 15 October at Hackney Marshes.

    The team was: Tristan, Eric, George, Jude, Alex, Jaidon, William, Sol and Zeki. Scores were:

    • Gayhurst 4 – Grasmere 0
    • Woodberry Down 3 – Grasmere 1
    • Shacklewell 1 – Grasmere 1
    • Jaidon scored both goals.

    Stoke Newington Cluster A Football League

    The following children represented the school in the latest Cluster A set of league matches: George, Emily, Eve, Tristan, Joanna, Alex, William and Sol. Scores were as follows:

    • St Mary’s A 0– Grasmere 2
    • St Mary’s B 0– Grasmere 1
    • Parkwood 1– Grasmere 0
    • Grazebrook 1 – Grasmere 1

    Goals were scored by George, William and Alex.

    Cross Country

    Last Monday 38 Grasmere participated in the second of four Hackney Junior Cross Country Competitions. Currently Grasmere is in 1st in the events with Alex Machin Paley holding the current record of 5 minutes 26 seconds.

    The Grasmere team makes up nearly half of all the Hackney primary pupils participating.

    Monday 17 November’s event has been cancelled and a date will be rearranged shortly.

    Gymnastics Success

    Congraulations to Pele Julien in Year 3 who gained a gold medal for his floor routine and general gymnastics skills in the LGF Cheam London Gymnastics Competition last weekend.


    Grasmere Awarded Sports Partnership Trophy

    On Monday evening Karlie, Ian and Mark attended the Hackney School Partnership award ceremony at the Hackney Empire theatre. Grasmere gained an award for the highest participation in sporting events in the last 12 months.


    Netball Success

    Grasmere’s Netball Team played St Mary’s CE in the Hackney Primary Netball League on Thursday 2 October. The scorelines suggest a team briefing from the manager akin to Rafa Benitez’s at Istanbul at half-time in the Champions League Final. Scores were:

    We will be starting Netball training for girls in Years 4 to 6 each Wednesday starting W/C 3rd March, starting at 3.45 – 4.45pm at Stoke Newington Arts & Media College. Children will need to be collected by parents or make their way home. Grasmere staff will escort children to training sessions.

    Grasmere Netball Team

    Grasmere football team took part in a high five netball tournament on Wednesday 30 January 2008. Although the team has never Trained or played netball before, they won 1, Drew 1 and lost 1.

  • Grasmere 3 — – Homleigh 2
  • The Netball team are Leah, Darcy, Sophia,Tian, Jude, Joshua, Gabey, Bobbie

    All players played very well and worked as a team. Jude receive the player of the tournament award for his hard work and scoring in the last second of the game.

    London Youth Games

    Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

    Several Grasmere Students competed in the London Youth Games 2007 where they helped Hackney move up six places in the league rankings. James Kinch swam butterfly and freestyle with a new Personal Best (PB) in each and Bobbie and Grace both competed in cycling and canoeing. Grace achieved a 12 second PB in her canoe slalom event. Bobbie, Grace and James also recently represented the school in the Hackney Primary Schools swimming competition. James swims with Clissold Swimming Club and Bobbie and Grace canoe with Laburnum Boat Club.

    Year 6 Bike Ride

    The annual year 6 Bike Ride was great as usual with a record breaking ride this year. 12 children cycled from the school to Hoddesdon where they swam at the lido there and then, amazingly, they cycled all the way back. Despite the wet summer so far it was a great day and everyone worked as a team and supported each other when they got tired and sore - and the students were very well behaved too!

    Sports Day

    A number of Year 6 parents have been advised that Stoke Newington arts and Media College will be holding their taster day for Year 6 pupils on Monday 16th July, the same day as our Sports Day. The change of date by Stoke Newington is affecting several other local school’s and plans for that day. Sports day is now Thursday 12 July.
